Initial Planning
Roles in the group

He will also be directing the music video and editing the video whilst he’s filming the narrative side of the music video. He will also be creating a CD pack design with the rest of the group.
Tom- Tom will be acting in the narrative side of the music video where he will be acting to the chosen song. He will also be directing the music video when he is not doing the narrative side of the video and filming the performance side of the video. He will also be editing the video when all the filming is done and creating a CD pack design.
Beth- Beth will be directing the music video whilst the rest of the group are performing in the music video. Beth will also be doing the editing of the music video when all of the filming is done and will be making a CD pack design with the rest of the group.
Initial planning
The song we have all agreed to do is an alternative rock song by the British band Architects. The track is called Heartburn which is from their latest album “The here and now.” We picked this song with dedication to make a video that will make the audience watch the visuals become real and nice to look at. Ideas that were brought up by the whole group were to have one male from the group to lip sync the song and to make the other male do a narration which will follow the lyrics and visuals together. We are hoping to make our music video a mixture of performance and narrative.
Specific Idea’s for the video;
Chosen Song;
Architects - Heartburn
Costume-
We won’t be using a specific costume or outfits for our music video, it’s just going to be everyday normal clothes nothing special. We think just Jeans and a t-shirt or something along those lines so it’s quite a casual look, but something that matches the genre and theme of the song. When we start to go out filming the weather wont be the best, it will be quite cold and maybe raining or even snowing therefore it will be best for us to be wearing winter clothes, hats, scarf’s and big coats.
Settings-
Some idea’s for settings and locations we are going to use are;
A quite road that isn’t too busy so we can film there without too many people being in the way, to also make it seem lonelier and it would match the look and pace of the song.
Some ideas are ‘Failsworth Road’, located in Failsworth. This is quite a long road, with little house’s and a lot of tree’s and fields located near and on it, so it looks quite empty and abandoned. As the song seems quite moody and emotional, we think this location would fit in with it perfect. This would be a good location to use when we film the singing scenes, or even for the narrative. Another idea could be the backstreets in Manchester. Daisy Nook is an idea of another location for us to use. It is a nature park/forest located in Failsworth. It would be a good location for us to use for our filming, and for the start of the video to be filmed at. If we film here during the day rather then weekend, then it will be quiet and we will be able to get on with our production.
Narrative-
we are going to have a simple narrative for our video as the song we have chosen to do is basic. One of our ideas is to film Doug walking down a lonely quiet road lip-syncing, maybe with a guitar in his hands as he’s playing it. Then have a narrative happening in the background. As the song we are doing is about helping people, ‘holding out your hand’ to help someone or be there for someone. An idea we have is for Tom to be walking around Manchester or a different location, and seeing people that need help with something. Specific things we could include are things such as giving a homeless person some change and just being friendly towards them, or helping someone that has fallen over, or needs help carrying bags, or someone who has dropped money or another item, and having Tom picking it up and giving it back to them. Then for the final scene we are going to bring a girl character into our music video.
We are going to start the video with Tom burning a picture of a girl, then he throws it on the floor, and we get a close up of the burning picture and Tom walking away. The next scene will cut to Doug walking and beginning to lip-sync to the lyrics.
Performance elements-
The performance in our video isn’t going to be a big performance in front of loads of people like a gig or anything. It’s just going to be a basic performance with a little lip-syncing, not sure weather or not to involve any instruments. We could have the singer walking whilst holding a guitar, that’s an idea we could try and see weather it would work, and look good or not. We wont be using a microphone or any pieces of equipment like that.
Specific Scene’s-
A specific scene within our music video will most probably be the end scene, which would bring the whole video together and to an end.
